As a successful engineering company with a proven track record, I knew IMI could offer me a great opportunity for long-term growth and development, personally and professionally. If you’re looking for opportunities across the globe, with a company that truly values its employees, try IMI.

Before taking my place on the Global Graduate Development Programme, I completed an Internship, so I’ve had the opportunity to work in five different job functions, at five different businesses, in five different geographical locations - three in the USA, one in Switzerland and one in the UK. Dealing with the challenges of living and working abroad, and getting used to new customs and languages, has really helped me grow. Of course I’ve also been able to develop all kinds of skills. It’s a long list: operations and manufacturing, equipment design, sales, marketing and business development, financial analysis, mergers and acquisitions, reporting, and management of both projects and people.

I’ve found there are different working cultures between each business platform - and that’s presented me with unique challenges, which have helped me learn and grow as an employee. But there is certainly one unifying approach that runs throughout the entire organisation, and that’s the IMI Way. Essentially, it’s a commitment to doing the right thing all the time. I’ve found it really refreshing to see everyone applying a common set of values in everything they do.

All this diversity has given me a real appreciation for IMI’s work across the globe, which will prepare me incredibly well for future roles. Training on the job and through workshops has also been extremely beneficial in fostering my professional growth. I’ve been able to tune my abilities in so many areas, but I’ve focussed specifically on Interpersonal Effectiveness and Leadership / Management. Those skills in particular have been vital to my growth from being a student to being an employee. I’m now committed to continuing my career progression. In the future, I aspire to transition into a management role in operations, so I can make a positive impact on the company.
