Combined know-how overcomes operating problems at LNG plant

IMI Company: Truflo Rona and Orton
Customer: Gorgon LNG Project
Growth Driver: Resource Scarcity

Location: Australia

The Gorgon LNG project is one of the largest in the world and is focused on energy and the environment. The customer specified that the severe service ball valves needed to meet cryogenic temperatures (less than minus 162°C) and provide 100% shutoff with proven reliability.  A failure, causing the plant to shut down, could cost upwards of $10million per day in lost revenues.

Based on their uniquely differentiated offer, the customer selected Truflo Rona to provide top entry ball valves and Orton to supply triple eccentric butterfly valves.  In total, 2,700 valves were ordered for the Gorgon LNG plant.  Because of the aggressive acid gas present, Orton designed fully replaceable sealing elements to allow the customer to service the valves locally, instead of shipping the valve back to the manufacturer for repair, therefore, providing significant maintenance benefits.
