We take our responsibilities to the environment and the communities in which we operate very seriously. These are often referred to as Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR. We believe that these responsibilities can impact positively on profitability, returns to shareholders, reputation and growth. High standards of responsibility are, in our view, compatible with growth and business efficiency. We put particular emphasis on ensuring that our management of social, environmental and economic issues is aligned and integrated with the overall management of the business and we call this 'responsible business'.
In 2008, IMI plc was again included in the FTSE4Good Index and, following our sign-up to the United Nations Global Compact in 2006, we have completed our communication on progress in June 2008. In the 2007 Business in the Community (BitC) Environment Index (results in April 2008) conducted amongst the FTSE 350 companies, IMI again scored an excellent and improved overall rating with an average score of 88%, which places us in the 'silver' BitC performance band.
