Energy Efficiency and Carbon Management

We have an ongoing commitment to reduce CO2 emissions and become more energy efficient in both our products and processes.

Responsibility Highlights

  • Clever lighting in the UK

Our manufacturing facilities at Lichfield and Loughborough in the UK, implemented a range of new lighting management initiatives including the use of zonal control, motion sensors, daylight roof panels and the replacement of light fittings with newer more energy efficient alternatives.

  • Rebate from electricity company

Our Severe Service business in the USA, invested in a new compressed air generator unit to replace two older inefficient units. This not only delivered a significant improvement in energy usage but also increased air capacity by over 50%. This resulted in rebates from the local electricity company.

  • Recycling waste water delivers savings

In our Beverage Dispense facility in Reynosa, Mexico the business invested in a new water filtration and reverse osmosis system which enables the site to recycle waste water and is saving over 250,000 gallons of water usage per annum.

All our major factories have local energy saving targets and initiatives in place to support our commitment and are working hard to deliver this.

In July 2010, IMI’s UK facilities became certified to The Carbon Trust Standard (CTS). This represents a great endorsement for all the work we have been doing on our energy efficiency and carbon management initiatives.

The CTS certifies that an organisation has genuinely reduced its carbon footprint, and is commitment to making further reductions year on year.

Last year we set a new target to reduce this KPI to no more than 3.2 CO2 tonnes/1,000 hours worked by 2012. The Group has a renewed focus in 2011 to improve performance in this area.
