Personnel Today Awards 2022: Winner of Workplace Culture Award for Larger Organisations
Creating a positive and engaging workplace culture can be a challenge when you have an organisation that includes 10,000 people across 50 countries.
To understand where and how we could improve as a business, we turned to our annual employee survey. This revealed that 83% of our employees were positively engaged – an impressive 10% improvement from the previous year. Yet, despite some very positive scores, some of our sites were much more engaged than others.
The first step in overcoming this was launching the “One Big Voice” individual survey, to guide us in making tangible changes. We used insights from the survey to roll out new initiatives across the business. There was also the introduction of our digital internal communications platform. Following its implementation, more than 70% of our people now hold an active account – and of the most active members is our Chief Executive, Roy Twite! Not only is the platform allowing the business to share key updates and communication, but employees can also create sub-groups based on their hobbies and interests outside work, creating new communities across the organisation.
Recognising that creating a better world for our people transcends the business, we remain committed to making a positive impact on local communities. Our annual IMI Way Day furthers our goal of creating an inclusive and diverse culture that delivers real impact.
The chance to "down tools" and spend time with colleagues before going out into our local communities to volunteer is a great opportunity that we make the most of. To ensure the business is supporting causes that matter most to its teams, colleagues are asked to nominate local organisations they would like to help, which align to UN SDGs.
Bringing teams dispersed across the globe together, alongside promoting community spirit on a more local level, is a balance we continue to foster. Community days, where employees work on something that is important and close to them – whether that is donating toys, assisting at a homeless shelter or creating a garden for a nearby community project – has not only brought employees closer, but also sparked community spirit and a sense of pride in team members.
Our Growth Hub connects employees from across the globe and across different sectors and specialisms – inside and outside of engineering – to collaborate and discuss new ideas to solve industry challenges. The fresh thinking bought in by the Growth Hub teams is seeing real innovation brought to life, adding real value to customers, but also supporting us on our purpose, Breakthrough Engineering for a better world.
We were delighted to win this award and would like to thank all our people for their support. This couldn’t have been achieved without our “one big team” spirit.
