Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Life Science Sector as Product Manager for our Mass Spectrometry portfolio. You will own market and product strategy, customer discovery, portfolio decisions, technology roadmap alignment, and Growth Hub execution across the full product lifecycle, acting as the voice of the customer and a technical product leader for mass spectrometry technologies and applications.

Work Environment: This is a hybrid role, with a preference for candidates based in the Northeast USA. Travel is expected up to 25% for customer visits, trade shows, distribution partners, manufacturing sites, and scientific conferences such as ASMS and Analytica.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Product Strategy and Roadmap: Own and communicate the product and portfolio roadmap for the mass spectrometry portfolio, aligning priorities with customer workflow needs, application requirements, product performance, and Life Science growth objectives.
  • Voice of the Customer: Engage directly with instrument designers and analytical scientists to capture customer opportunities – unmet needs, pain points, and desires – across quadrupole, time-of-flight (TOF), and other platforms.
  • Requirements Definition: Translate customer insights, market opportunities, and application needs into clear product requirements that inform roadmap priorities, customer value, and NPI decisions, while partnering with site engineering teams that lead technical requirements definition and execution of the technology roadmap.
  • New Product Introduction: Partner with R&D, engineering, operations, quality, applications, commercial teams, and finance to advance NPI by validating customer opportunities, building business cases, and ensuring technical execution remains aligned to customer value, portfolio priorities, and commercial objectives.
  • Application Support: Provide technical and application support to customers on the selection, integration, and optimization of mass spectrometry components, including detectors, ion optics, vacuum interfaces, and related technologies.
  • Competitive and Technology Analysis: Monitor advances in detection technology, ionization techniques, and competitor product performance to inform positioning and differentiation
  • Lifecycle and Portfolio Management: Manage the full product lifecycle – pricing, margin, obsolescence, and rationalization – across the mass spectrometry portfolio.
  • Commercial Enablement: Develop technical collateral, application notes, and datasheets, and train sales and distribution partners on the science behind the portfolio.

Critical Competencies for Success

  • Bachelor’s degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, Life Sciences, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Deep working knowledge of mass spectrometry principles, including ionization, mass analysis, and ion detection
  • Hands-on experience with MS instrumentation (quadrupole, TOF, ion trap, magnetic sector, or ICP-MS)
  • Understanding of ion detector technologies – electron multipliers, microchannel plates, and Faraday/scintillation detection
  • Understanding of front-end separation techniques and instrumentation, including HPLC, LC, GC, and related analytical workflows
  • Experience translating scientific and customer needs into product requirements that inform engineering, manufacturing, and commercial decisions
  • Product management or product ownership experience in a technical B2B or OEM environment
  • Ability to engage credibly with PhD-level scientists and instrument design engineers
  • Strong analytical and data interpretation skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including authoring technical documentation
  • Ability to manage a portfolio across the full product lifecycle
  • Strong commercial acumen and customer focus
  • Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional environment
