Creating a better world for all of our colleagues, customers and local communities
“We take this special day each year to celebrate success, bring our values to life and give time volunteering in our local communities, creating a sense of pride and belonging."
Roy Twite
Chief Executive Officer
Our annual IMI Way Day is the very essence of our purpose.
For one day each year, we take a step back from our day-to-day, with our factories and offices taking time out of the normal working day to live our values in the truest sense, focusing on better world growth, all our people and our customers.
Engaging our people is a big part of this day. As a global organisation with over 10,000 people, ensuring that everyone across IMI feels connected to our strategy and empowered to contribute towards delivering Breakthrough Engineering for a better world is key. In a detailed session focused on engagement, our global teams listened to updates from our Executive Committee on our strategic priorities, performance and learned more about the key sectors in which we operate.
How do you work towards creating a better world in a day?
Questioning our biases
We work hard to create a better working world built upon a foundation of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.
"Ensuring all our colleagues understand the importance of Inclusion & Diversity is very important to us. We use our annual IMI Way Day to collectively develop our awareness and understanding of different aspects of I&D.”
Roy Twite
Chief Executive Officer
In a highly interactive session, our teams underwent training on unconscious bias, raising awareness of:
>> The fact that everyone has unconscious biases
>> Not everyone’s biases are the same
>> The impact that these biases can have if left unmanaged in our workplace
Not only do our unconscious biases influence our perceptions of people, but they can also influence how we interact with our colleagues, customers, suppliers and almost everyone we encounter.
Through educating and encouraging our people to consider their unconscious biases, we have also learnt some of the actions that can be taken to reduce our biases in the workplace and beyond.
Learning how we can better support our customers
The customer and our core value of customer intimacy sits at the heart of everything we do. For the first time this year, we incorporated a customer session into our IMI Way Day with each of our sites opening their doors to a customer for a live Q&A session – expanding our customer centric culture to one of the most important days in the IMI calendar.
“It’s a great opportunity to hear about where our products end up, what our customers challenges are, how we can help them be successful and that will help us be more successful”
Beth Ferreira
Chief Executive Officer, Life Technology
Supporting the local communities in which we operate
How do small acts of generosity and goodwill create a huge difference?
Globally, our colleagues collectively spent over 8,000 hours completing volunteer work linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals within their local communities on IMI Way Days this year.
From donating blood and building bikes for disadvantaged children, to volunteering in local food banks, our teams globally contributed towards creating a better world in a range of different ways.
Running for change in Italy:
In the largest group run IMI has ever seen, colleagues from different sectors across Italy gathered together and ran a total of 897 kilometers, raising and donating a total of 8,970 euros to the Italian Red Cross.
“This donation will help us to continue with our important work: safeguarding and protecting health and life, fostering social support and inclusion, preparing communities, intervening in emergencies and disasters, and actively promoting youth development and a culture of active citizenship” says a spokesperson for the Italian Red Cross.
Supporting with the development of an adventure playground in Germany:
As part of an ongoing partnership, our team at IMI Z&J Germany donated and transformed two freight containers into a working and learning area for disadvantaged children.
“The playground is a municipal amenity, where children can discover experiences with nature and construction” says a supervisor at the park who also highlights their gratitude for IMI’s continued support in evolving the space.
Our IMI Way Day continues to be favourite day for everyone at IMI. Through building longstanding relationships within the local communities we operate in, we’re committed to extending our community support and encouraging our teams to give back, not just on IMI Way Day, but throughout the year.
