Over the past six years, we have delivered value through six strategic, bolt-on acquisitions. The latest, TWTG, a Rotterdam-based innovator in wireless sensor technology, joined our Process Automation team in October 2024.

TWTG’s cutting-edge solutions help plant operators boost performance and profitability – especially in the demanding world of severe service flow control. Their predictive maintenance capabilities and retrofittable sensors offer a powerful opportunity to strengthen our aftermarket business and grow our asset monitoring offering.

John Tillema, Founder and former Chief Technology Officer of TWTG, and now Growth Hub Director shares his perspective on integrating into IMI.

“Running our own company for 12 years meant doing everything ourselves and making decisions fast,” John says. “Now, we’re part of this huge, global team – the scale, the impact, the sheer amount of smart people working together is really impressive.”

He adds: “We already feel like an integral part of IMI’s future.”

Becoming part of IMI

“Obviously IMI has a huge install base, and TWTG brings the technology to turn those assets into smart, self-monitoring systems. That’s where the real opportunity is, shifting from just hardware to hardware, insights, and automation, making industrial processes more efficient, reliable, and sustainable. That’s a game changer.”

"IMI’s shift from selling components to providing full, data-driven solutions is where the real opportunity lies," John explains. "We’re not just adding technology; we’re changing the game for industrial processes, creating systems that are more reliable, sustainable, and cost-effective."

Priorities for 2025

“This year is all about embedding our technology deeper into IMI’s core offering; scaling NEON sensors, building momentum in predictive maintenance, and expanding beyond our current markets.”

“All in all, it isn't just about continuing what we did before, but about leveraging IMI’s reach, resources, and market access with the innovation power of TWTG to make a real step change in industrial Internet of Things (IoT) adoption.”

The future of industrial asset monitoring

Discussing industry trends, John says “industrial monitoring is going through a major shift”.

"in the past, it was all about reacting, ‘run until failure.’ Now, with wireless IoT, better analytics and recently AI, we’re moving towards truly predictive maintenance. Knowing what will fail before it actually does, and even automating fixes before people need to step in.” he explains.

“In the long-term, asset monitoring won’t just be a product, it’ll be a service. I believe our clients won’t just buy sensors, they’ll buy real-time operational insights.” Reflecting on the opportunity for both TWTG and IMI, John says “we have the hardware, the data, and now the global reach to make this a reality at scale.”

By combining TWTG’s innovation with our commercial excellence and close customer partnerships, we’re building momentum towards a smarter, more connected future for industrial asset monitoring.
