Creating a better world through climate action

Our ambition to deliver Breakthrough Engineering for a better world extends far beyond just our products. Creating a better world is also about protecting and sustaining our world for generations to come by playing our part in minimising the environmental impact across everything we do.
Our manufacturing operations span across 18 countries, and our dedication lies in sustaining these facilities responsibly, through reductions in energy and water consumption, pollution, waste, and the use of single-use plastics. In 2022, we drove positive change across our facilities globally through many different better world focused projects; from the installation of photovoltaic cells in nine facilities, to the implementation of water management systems, and the adoption of LED lighting.
In 2023, we have continued to take action to make our sites greener, cleaner, and more efficient across IMI globally.
Reducing waste water in India
The winter months see low levels of rainfall in India. To reduce water consumption during these winter months and all year round, one of our facilities in India has worked in conjunction with the local industrial area to install a pipeline spanning 1.5 kilometers. This pipeline collects waste water from the local area where it is then reused for irrigation of the garden areas surrounding the facility.
This change is enabling the facility to reduce water consumption by 20%.
Packaging designed with our planet in mind
This year we have been finding ways to reduce single-use plastics across IMI. Involving customers and key stakeholders in the decision making process, Climate Control have outlined new product packaging standards which help to optimise safety, durability, sustainability and handling efficiency while attempting to minimise the impact on the planet and use of plastic.
Switching from plastic pallet wrapping to cardboard alternatives in just one facility in Climate Control has enabled a 5.5 tonne reduction in plastic usage over the past few months, highlighting just how large an impact these small changes can have.
Harnessing the power of solar
We are continuing to expand the implementation of photovoltaic cells across even more of our facilities globally, including Rockford, USA.
The first phase of solar installation in Rockford involving a $200,000 investment in 2022 has resulted in generating 7.5% of the site’s energy requirement. The success of this first phase has catalysed a further $700,000 investment in solar in 2023, with this second phase of the project expecting to enable the facility to draw a further 25% of sustainably sourced energy.
By investing in our planet and making impactful changes across IMI, we are getting one step closer to our sustainability targets and creating a better world for generations to come.
